Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta

Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta (39º006N-001º177E) are exceptionally close to the port of San Antonio. Orientated towards the west, these beaches will allow you to experience sunsets you thought could only be found photoshopped for postcards. Located between cliffs and surrounded by forests and native plants, such as rosemary and rockrose, Cala Salada is considered one of the five best beaches in Ibiza. It is one of the most visited coves appreciated by those who opt for a boat rental in Ibiza.

The shore of Cala Salada measures a length of approximately 90 metres with a width of about 10 metres. Forming part of the same coast and sharing this body of water, Cala Salada is followed by its neighboring cove Cala Saladeta, which is noticeably smaller than its counterpart.

Although the floor of Cala Salada contains oceanic Posidonia, there are patches of sand that make this cove suitable for anchoring. Offering depths of between four and five metres, on days when the wind is blowing from the north, this beach is the perfect haven for a yacht charter in Ibiza to take shelter.  Due to the massive crowds that visit daily, roads are often blocked making it extremely difficult to access this gem without the use of public transportation. It is no wonder why many choose to enjoy this beach on board a catamaran hire in Ibiza.

The bay of Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta is wide and best seen with a drone.

Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta are divided by a rock that acts as a filter. Scattered around Cala Salada you will notice umbrellas opened for shade, cool boxes filled with refreshments, and hammocks for comfortable sun bathing. However, due to the path that must be taken to reach Cala Saladeta, only the most courageous light packers venture further, crossing the cliff, to this neighbouring cove. This results in a mix of a youthful ambience with a more naturalistic vibe that comes from the hippies that currently reside at the end of this coast. No matter what area you choose to spend your day on, aside from the perfect weather, gorgeous water, and stunning sunsets you will experience, you can also take visual delight in the traditional boathouses found on its banks.

Maritime Traffic

Three months ago the San Antonio City Council decided to reorganize maritime traffic to increase the safety of those enjoying the beaches and improve sustainability in the area. The following changes are expected:

  • The small dock situated between Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta will be eliminated. This area to tie-up and board will be moved to the southern zone of the beach, where a rigid infrastructure already exists.

The San Antonio city council has permanently moved the legal docking area of Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta to the southern zone of the beach.
  • The first 200 metres from land will be marked as the swimming area, which means that the boats that anchor in the cove are now moved offshore. The new dock will facilitate the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers with greater comfort and safety and, in addition, will allow the transfer of people with reduced mobility from the port of San Antonio to this beach. This is intended to guarantee that, once the season has come to an end, the coves return to normal.
  • Improve the sustainability of the cove by establishing a field of regulated anchorages for rental boat in Ibiza.
  • Lastly, the elimination of all the illegal moorings that exist on the seabed.

In other words, this famous bay shared by two coves is expected to become a reference point in terms of environmental sustainability.
