Port Santa Eulalia

Although hard to believe, there was a time when the sea and boat rental in Ibiza were not crucial for the inhabitants of the islands. A good example of this is from back in the fourteenth century, in the port of Santa Eulalia, when the people were more concerned about the river having a continuous stream of water to operate the flour mills than the sea. Bread was the staple food and all the islanders would come to the flour mills to grind. The river and the mills were the seed of the town of Santa Eulalia del Río or Santa Eulària des Riu (in eivissenc).

Now, in the 21st century, the sea is the result of the municipality of Santa Eulalia. Water is still the source of wealth but, now that the river is mostly dried out, we live from the abundance of the Mediterranean Sea. Although it is not an ocean and it is often referred to the sleeping sea, it provides us with plenty to live off of.

With capacity for 763 boats, Marina Santa Eulalia is the harbour with the largest number of moorings on the entire island of Ibiza. Not only does it dock personally owned boats but it also holds boat hire in Ibiza. Marina Santa Eulalia offers all of the services that can be requested from a port. From the basics- such as a fuel station, showers, toilets, parking, water, electricity, and 24 hour assistance- to the more enjoyable services that are not always offered- supermarkets, laundry, bars and restaurants, paddle tennis courts, beauty parlour, etc. Located in the third most populated city of the island, you practically have everything you need and want at your fingertips.

The best restaurants and bars of the port of Santa Eulalia

The marina has around 20 restaurants with an array of gastronomic styles. Offering a range of options, you can find anything from Ibizan and Mediterranean cuisine, grilled meats or Italian dishes to Asian, British and even German plates.

When hunger surfaces during my walk through the port of Santa Eulalia, the first spot that comes to mind is Rincon del Marinero and the delicious octopus that they serve. That is if the mouth-watering aroma that comes from Estel restaurant doesn´t stop me first!  Another smell that catches me when walking through the port of Santa Eulalia is that which comes from the restaurant Estel. Located at the confluence of the promenade and the marina, and open all year, they definitely fuse art with the most traditional recipes.

In general, the area of Santa Eulalia provides several funky spots to enjoy music and other live performances. You might even want to do so with the company of some exquisite artisan ice cream. If so, Miretti is certainly worth a stop.

If after a full day on board one of our catamaran charter in Ibiza what you really want is a fun night out in the town, we highly recommend checking out Guarana– the perfect small neighborhood club to spend hours dancing to different styles of music.
