Basic information about yacht master

One of the fundamental requirements for people who want to operate a boat, in addition to having the corresponding boat insurance, is to have a certificate that certifies that they have completed the yacht master course and successfully passed exams or tests. A new Royal Decree (875/2014) is in force that regulates the nautical qualifications of pleasure craft. This new text supposes some changes with respect to the previous legislation of 2007 to realize the course of boat pattern and to obtain the title.

On the one hand, the most basic authorization is now known as a Navigation License. The Navigation License is required to operate sailing or motor boats up to 6 meters in length, provided you do not go further than 2 miles from a port. The power limit in the case of motor boats is 55 horses. Basically, this navigation license consists of theoretical training of two hours and the practice of four hours. To obtain this degree it is not necessary to pass any exam, but simply to attend the course.

Ports for mega yachts in Ibiza

The demand for ports for mega yachts in Ibiza and in our country exceeds the available supply, which greatly influences the price increase that, in some cases, reaches exorbitant figures. In fact, some nautical enthusiasts with high purchasing power make the purchase of their boats subject to the existence of a place where they can tie their brand new yacht. And the fact is that the price of a seat during a long season can have a cost similar to that of the boat itself, or even higher in the most coveted marinas of the Balearic Islands and other famous ports of the Mediterranean Sea.

Guide of nautical words

The basic nautical words are part of the fundamental vocabulary of sailors and nautical enthusiasts. The nautical has its own lexicon, and we must know the basic nautical terms to be able to navigate naturally in this marine environment. In most of the occasions we will sail together with other people, so the knowledge of the basic nautical terms is fundamental to get a good communication on board.

There are four basic nautical terms that you should know: those that designate the four sides of the boat. We will refer to the front and back of the ship as bow and stern. We will use the terms starboard and port to talk about the right and left side of the boat, seen from stern to bow. When we talk about the dimensions of a ship, we do not say length and breadth but length and beam. The interior part of the boat is usually called a bathtub. Sometimes we also refer to the windward and leeward expressions. The windward is the part from where the wind comes from a certain point, while the opposite part from where the wind comes from.
