The ports of Ibiza are exhilarating, the sweetest victory for a skipper after a long journey. Simultaneously, departing from a marina on a rental boat in Ibiza opens up a world of new landscapes and unimaginable adventures.
The ports of Ibiza (Eivissa), San Antonio and Santa Eulalia, located primarily in the heart of each city, are the main marinas (and, for now, the only marinas) on the island of Ibiza. They offer a full range of services for those stopping by with their vessel or wanting a yacht charter in Ibiza.
In the island of Ibiza, there are 2,888 moorings distributed in eight marinas and, in Formentera, that figure is shortened to 84 moorings in two marinas located in the port of La Savina.
Ports of the neighboring island of Formentera
On the island of Formentera, the main port is La Savina, which includes two marinas behind its dykes:
- Marina de Formentera: The oldest and largest of the two marinas in the port of La Savina is found entering starboard (west). You can contact this port at (+34) 971 32 23 46 or by radio on channel 9 .
- Formentera Mar: More modern of the two marinas, you can reach it by entering straight and then heading toward port side (east). You can contact the offices, during business hours, by telephone (+34) 971 32 32 35 or also by the same channel 9 VHF .
Ports of Ibiza city
In the city of Ibiza, you are a short distance from four different marinas along the bay, all with the possibility of an Ibiza yacht hire.
Ibiza Magna
The first port you will come across, and the closest to the old town, is Ibiza Magna. With 85 moorings available, this marina is ideal for boats and yachts of great length. You can contact the offices on the telephone (+34) 971 193 870 or also on channel 9 of VHF.
Ibiza Yacht Club
If we continue on through the coast, and once we have passed the ferries that make daily round trips to Formentera, you will find the marina that is indigenous in the area: the Ibiza Yacht Club. Its restaurant offers recipes at affordable prices with fresh fish brought by fishermen who frequent the Club. They have a lovely terrace from where you can view the docks with traditional boats such as the Llaut and other sailboats that partake in boat trips in Ibiza and Formentera.
The docks are the main structure of a marina. They are floating wooden corridors supported by piles anchored to the sea that serve as mooring docks for boats. If you are considering booking a mooring in this port, keep in mind that the docks are floating. A floating dock is not as comfortable as a fixed one because they move, in this case, depending on the entry and exit of the ferries to Formentera. The Club has 300 moorings, of which only 30 are used by passerby, the remainders are for members. You can contact the offices on the telephone (+34) 971 313 363 or also on channel 9 of VHF.
Marina Ibiza
A little further on, with almost no indication of where a port ends and the other begins, Marina Ibiza, one of the most expensive marinas in Europe, appears. This port has 425 moorings for boats up to 60 metres. You can contact them by phone: (+34) 971 318 040. The ports of Ibiza town are rather small. This is one of the reasons why 99% of Ibiza yacht rentals are based out of the port of San Antonio.
Marina Ibiza is known to give priority to boats of greater lengths, such as yachts and mega yachts. It is their method to making more money in less time because it is easier to manage the mooring of a single boat than that of many smaller vessels.
Marina Botafoch
Finally, after we have reached the end of Marina Ibiza, we will come across Marina Botafoch.
Marina Botafoch is located on the north bank of the bay. It is a bit smaller than the previous port, and therefore dedicated to boats of smaller lengths, but without a doubt the most fun and colorful one of all the ports of Ibiza city. Throughout this marina you will stumble upon plenty of chic shops, delicious restaurants and even an art gallery with amazing exhibitions.
In full operation since 1987, Marina Botafoch has 428 moorings between 6 and 30 metres, each with an individual gauge for water and electricity, telephone and Internet. In addition to the berths, this port has other services. Among them are stranded and launch of ships, stay dry and repairs, gas station, and weather information.
We cannot fail to mention the Botafoch lighthouse, built in 1862, on top of the islet called Echa Fuego in Castilian. It is said that, before the construction of the lighthouse, fires were lit on the top of the islet to guide sailors, hence the name. In the sixties of the twentieth century, the residence of the lighthouse keeper was added. The home is still inhabited by an Ibizan family, which handles the proper operation of the lighthouse.
Ibiza on the World Heritage list
In 1999, UNESCO recognized Ibiza and Formentera on their World Heritage list. As part of the international program for the conservation of the cultural environment, the heritage of these islands serves as the link between generations and the people.
So many interesting details to share, so little time. I will follow this article with one describing the other ports of Ibiza island. I hope my explanations have been informative and guide you towards the marina that best fits your needs.
