Portitxol Ibiza

Portitxol is an exquisite delight that this magnificent island in the Mediterranean offers us. This natural harbour on the north coast is guarded by the cliffs of Cap des Rubió, 300 metres high, and Punta de Sa Galera. Its shoreline, consisting of pebbles and gravel, is closed and sheltered from the wind.

This beautiful cove can only be reached on foot or by sea, aboard one of our boat hire in Ibiza, making it even more unique and adventurous.

Torrents are natural streams of water that form between areas of cliffs and mountains. They have steep slopes, irregular flows and a great deal of erosion capacity. In Ibiza, most of the coves were formed by the large amount of water that formerly ran through these areas until reaching the sea. Cala Portitxol was also formed by the natural outlet of a torrent, that of Sa Marina d’en Besora.

Fishermen huts in Portitxol

As you will frequently find throughout the coast of Ibiza, several typical Ibizan boathouses are lined up at this beach. Fishermen have taken advantage of Portitxol and its protection from the currents to store their fishing boats and gear in these huts.

Anchoring and Winds in Portitxol

Inside this minuscule cove, you can anchor on sandy or rocky surfaces with depths of 8 to 3 metres. Not ideal for all boats, this spot is suitable for Ibiza yacht charter of smaller drafts.

We can drop anchor at the entrance of the cove and release some chain, but with extreme precaution because there are many boats that doing this manoeuvre have touched bottom with the rudder. Above all, beware of the rocks on the east bank.
